Another case of vandalism was recorded in occupied Stepanakert. This time, Azerbaijani vandals targeted the Holy Mother of God Cathedral in Stepanakert, “Ombudsman of Culture of Hayk” Facebook page reports.
As noted, the consecration of the cathedral was performed by the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, His Holiness Garegin II on April 7, 2019.
Under Article 4 of The Hague 1954 Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, any form of theft, pillage or misappropriation of, and any acts of vandalism directed against, cultural property is prohibited. The First Protocol to The Hague Convention prohibits the destruction of cultural or spiritual property in occupied territories.
