Kopirkin: Russia can help Armenia establish a dialogue with BRICS

The Russian side can help Armenia if Yerevan decides to establish a dialogue with BRICS, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin said in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

“Russia, as the country chairing BRICS in 2024, during communication with Armenian partners as well as in the information space of Armenia, spreads up-to-date information about the activities of the association and the priorities of our presidency. If the decision to establish a dialogue with BRICS is reached in Yerevan, our Armenian friends can count on Russia’s help in this regard,” Kopirkin said.

At the same time, he noted that during his speech at the Pan-Armenian Forum in Yerevan on Sept. 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia has no intention of integrating into BRICS.

“We assume that the official position of Yerevan in this matter will be formed, including the results of the visit to Kazan. It is obvious that Armenia, like any sovereign state, must clearly understand whether joining this or that organization is in its interests,” the ambassador stated.

At the same time, he drew attention to the statement of Russian Presidential Aide for Foreign Policy Yuri Ushakov made on Oct. 10, where he said that at the Kazan summit it is planned to introduce a new category of BRICS “partner state”, which does not provide the right to vote in making key decisions, but over time it will allow a state to become a full member of the association.
