Brussels took note of the declaration of the BRICS summit in Kazan, but rejected the demands regarding the EU sanctions, Interfax news agency reports, referring to Peter Stano, lead spokesperson for the EU foreign affairs and security policy.
“We, as the European Union, do not think that we are the addressee of the part about sanctions of the Kazan declaration, adopted after the BRICS summit. EU sanctions are legal decisions that are binding on EU citizens and organizations based on European Union law,” Stano said at a briefing held in Brussels.
