Information has appeared in the Armenian social media that Georgia has been banning the shipment of French CAESAR systems to Armenia. As a result, all weapons are stranded in the Poti Sea Port. Vakhtang Maisaya, Georgian expert and PhD in political science explained the situation.
According to the expert, this information can be considered accurate. Georgia can indeed block the import of foreign technologies to the region—including CAESAR systems to Armenia—and there are logical reasons for this.
“The present authorities of Georgia pursue the so-called neutral policy. Although Georgia officially announced its desire to become a member of the EU and NATO earlier, after these elections, in particular, the government has de facto demonstrated a pro-Eurasian foreign policy line. I think that the rather frequent visits of high-ranking Georgian government officials to Azerbaijan attest to the development of intra-regional relations. I would rather say that a Turkey-Georgia-Azerbaijan alliance can be discerned,” the expert noted.
According to him, on the other hand, Georgia wants to become a mediator in the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. With this in mind, Tbilisi cannot be an arms supplier for any of the parties.
