Konstantin Kosachev: The ratification of the Rome Statute is an overtly unfriendly move against Russia

By ratifying the Rome Statute, Armenia gives up its legal
sovereignty. This is, in fact, demeaning. Senator at the Federation Council
Konstantin Kosachev made a Telegram post on this.

“Truly sovereign states, such as Russia, the U.S., India,
China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Iran and others, are not members of the
ICC,” Kosachev wrote.

He noted that this ratification constitutes an “overtly
unfriendly move against Russia”. There were no political forces in the Armenian
parliament that would be able to prevent the process.

“It would be naive to think that hereby Armenia will be able
to solve the issues regarding the alleged war crimes committed in the conflict
zone between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Many a time, the ICC case law has proven
quite the opposite: interference in the domestic affairs of the member states.
After all, today’s decision of ratification can backfire on the Armenian
authorities in the future,” Kosachev wrote.

To remind, today the National Assembly of Armenia ratified
the Rome Statute by a vote of 60 to 22.
