Azerbaijan continues to harm the environment while advocating for clean energy, environmentalist says

Azerbaijan is one of the countries that is engaged in the use and trade of harmful fossil fuels. This country cannot claim to transition to the use of clean energy and advanced technologies while continuing its current practices, Environmentalist Silva Adamyan told ABC media.

“Numerous European organizations have sent letters stating that it is impossible to hold a climate conference in Azerbaijan. What Azerbaijan is currently doing across the Absheron Peninsula is entirely harmful,” the environmentalist said.

Adamyan noted that the U.S. and European organizations participating in COP29 will raise existing issues, as they are attending the conference specifically for that purpose.

“International organizations have sent letters outlining the global situation, what needs to be done, and what Azerbaijan is not doing. In other words, it continues to use and export oil and gas, further harming the environment,” Adamyan stated.
