UN to collaborate with CSTO as General Assembly passes resolution
The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution on cooperation with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) during its 79th session. This information was reported by the CSTO press service.
The document states that the CSTO has a significant practical contribution to the strengthening of its peacekeeping potential and regional security and stability system, the fight against terrorism and organized transnational crime, the fight against illegal drug and arms trafficking, irregular migration and human trafficking, as well as disaster response efforts, both natural and man-made, which align with the goals and principles of the international organization.
“The General Assembly has proposed to the U.N. secretary-general to continue regular consultations with the CSTO secretary-general within the framework of bilateral communications and various format conferences,” reads the statement.
The U.N. and the CSTO will continue to collaborate to ensure the consistent and comprehensive implementation of the U.N.’s global strategy against terrorism. Both organizations will also explore further avenues for enhancing cooperation in peacekeeping efforts.
