Azerbaijani ambassador summoned to French Foreign Ministry over Aliyev’s unacceptable statements
Azerbaijani ambassador to France has been summoned to the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to statements made by Azerbaijani authorities during COP29 regarding “neo-colonialism” in France’s and the Netherlands’ overseas territories.
A statement from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the diplomat’s summons followed “unacceptable statements” made by Azerbaijani officials at the COP29 conference, which led to French Minister of Ecological Transition Agnès Pannier-Runacher being “forced to cancel her participation” in the event.
Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that France’s and the Netherlands’ overseas territories are “facing very serious issues,” such as “neo-colonialism and climate change.” Following this, Agnès Pannier-Runacher refused to attend COP29.
