Lavrov: The priority of the West is to sever relations between the former Soviet republics

The West’s prime goal is to break off the cooperation
between Russia and the CIS countries. As TASS reports, Russian Foreign Minister
Sergey Lavrov said this during the question and answer session at the
Federation Council.

“The West’s overriding concern is the post-Soviet territory.
Their priority is to sever the relations between the former Soviet republics,
to destroy the social, economic, legal and common security system,” he said.

As Lavrov noted, being under the firm guidance of Washington
and operating in line with the U.S. Agency for International Development,
Western organizations, NGOs, and all kinds of democracy foundations try to run
their grant projects in this field.

“We openly talk about this with our allies. The vast
majority perfectly understand the intentions of the West. We understand that
they do not want to come into conflict with Western countries. We would not
want to be in conflict with them either, if they didn’t start a war against
us,” Lavrov said and added that Russia can see how important the issue of
severing the long-standing relations between the post-Soviet countries is to the
West.
