Israeli army establishing additional security zone at Syrian border
Dmitry Gendelman, an advisor to the Israeli Prime Minister’s office, said in a Telegram post that Israel is creating an additional security zone in Syria, near Mount Hermon.
“Israel continues to expand its control over Mount Hermon and other strategic points in the surrounding areas,” Gendelman wrote.
He explained that the purpose of expanding the security zone is to neutralize threats and to establish contact with local Druze and other communities.
Earlier, The New York Times wrote that this week, for the first time in over half a century, the Israeli army crossed the Syrian border, moving out of the Golan Heights.
