François Bayrou appointed as France’s new prime minister
François Bayrou, President of the centrist Democratic Movement party, has been appointed as the country’s new prime minister, according to reports from the Élysée Palace.
In 1993-1997, Bayrou served as minister of National Education. He briefly headed the Ministry of Justice in 2017. He ran for president in 2002, 2007, and 2012.
His party is part of the Ensemble political coalition.
