Belarus evacuates all diplomats from Syria
Belarus has evacuated all of its diplomats from Syria and expressed gratitude to Moscow for assisting in the evacuation process, the press service of Belarus’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“Given the situation on the ground, the diplomats of the Belarusian Embassy in Syria have been evacuated to Minsk. Belarusian Ambassador to Syria Yury Sluka will remain in the capital for consultations for a period of time, after which a meeting is planned for an in-depth assessment of the situation,” reads the statement.
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry extended its gratitude to “all Russian partners who ensured the safe return of Belarusian diplomats to their homeland.”
The ministry also said a temporary consular office has been opened in Beirut for the Belarusian Embassy in Syria to “continue consular activities and provide possible assistance to citizens.”
