Georgian prime minister threatens President Zourabichvili with imprisonment
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze considers it unlikely that the authorities will have to remove Salome Zourabichvili from the Orbeliani Palace after the inauguration of President-elect Mikheil Kavelashvili, whose legitimacy is not recognized by either the incumbent president or the opposition, ekhokavkaza.com writes.
However, Kobakhidze does not rule out the possibility of such developments, noting that in this case, Zourabichvili could face criminal penalties.
“I believe in this case, Salome Zourabichvili will act wisely. I consider it unlikely that the authorities will have to expel Zourabichvili from the Orbeliani Palace after the inauguration of President-elect Mikheil Kavelashvili.
This is the residence of the president of Georgia, so not leaving would constitute a criminal offense, which carries a lengthy prison sentence not only for Salome Zourabichvili but also for anyone involved in that scenario,” Kobakhidze stated.
