Mass immigrant deportations in US to begin Jan. 20
The administration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will begin implementing its pre-election promises of mass deportations of undocumented immigrants starting Jan. 21, the day after Trump assumes office, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports, citing its sources.
According to the sources, the first “large-scale campaign against migrants” is set to begin in Chicago on Tuesday morning and will last until the end of the week. Approximately 200 officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will be involved in the operation. As reported, their primary targets will be undocumented immigrants with criminal records. After Chicago, similar operations are planned to take place in New York, Los Angeles, Denver, and Miami, according to WSJ.
