Kobakhidze: The US embassy and USAID acted against the Georgian people and state
The U.S. Embassy and USAID have acted against the Georgian people and the Georgian state. According to Sputnik Georgia, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in response to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s remarks that USAID is spending American taxpayers’ money on projects that contradict U.S. interests.
“We truly hope that under the new U.S. administration, first, the approach of the U.S. embassy toward the Georgian people and state will change, and the disgusting coordination that existed between the embassy, USAID, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and other relevant organizations will cease,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump intends to merge USAID with the U.S. Department of State and reduce the number of staff in that organization. Trump has criticized USAID, stating that it spends American taxpayers’ money on projects that do not serve U.S. interests.
