Lavrov to discuss with Iranian foreign minister mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation and situation in Caucasus

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will make an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran on Feb. 25 at the invitation of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The heads of the foreign ministries will discuss in detail the bilateral agenda of Russian-Iranian relations, which has officially reached the level of comprehensive strategic partnership with the signing of a new fundamental intergovernmental agreement in Moscow on Jan. 17.

During the negotiations, special emphasis is expected to be placed on the further expansion of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation, particularly in the context of implementing key joint projects in the energy and transport sectors.

The parties are expected to exchange views on a number of outstanding global issues, including the situation in Syria, the Caucasus, Afghanistan, Yemen, the Persian Gulf, the Middle East, and the Caspian Sea.
