Iran criticizes statements by Turkey’s foreign minister
Iran has described the statements made by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan regarding Tehran’s policy in Syria as unconstructive.
The criticism was prompted by an interview with Al Jazeera, where Fidan stated that Iran has spent enormous resources on “its achievements in the region.”
Fidan hinted at Iran-affiliated proxy groups involved in the Syrian conflict, including those fighting against Ankara-backed militants. He noted that “old mistakes should not be repeated.”
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Baghaei responded to these statements, noting that “Turkish partners should think more deeply about the consequences of their policies.” Tehran believes that the priority for countries in the region should be the establishment of a security system that serves the interests of their peoples.
Baghaei also emphasized that despite existing disagreements, Iran places great importance on its relations with Turkey and shares several common interests with Ankara.
