The 2600-year history of Armenia’s borders

Following the 44-day war in 2020, the process of border delimitation and demarcation was launched alongside discussions on a “peace treaty” between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In this context, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has consistently referenced the “Alma-Ata” declaration and discussed conducting border delimitation based on Soviet maps.

After the 2020 war, Baku initiated another process, labeling nearly all of Armenia’s territory as “Western Azerbaijan” and demanding the restoration of what it calls territorial integrity. Geographer Ruben Galchyan clearly illustrates Armenia’s millennia-long history through maps, including international ones.
