White House press secretary: It was not Trump but adviser Witkoff who spoke with Putin
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt noted that it was not U.S. President Donald Trump who spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but rather Trump’s adviser, Steve Witkoff, who had previously visited Moscow.
“Yesterday was a productive day in terms of peace efforts. It was Steve Witkoff who spoke with Putin,” Leavitt told reporters.
Earlier, Trump had stated on his Truth Social page that an effective discussion had taken place with Putin and expressed optimism about opportunities for a resolution in Ukraine. However, his post did not specify who exactly had spoken with the Russian president.
