Thousands arrested amid clashes in Turkey: Does Trump support Erdoğan?
Clashes continue in Turkey as protests have escalated into confrontations with police, who have used tear gas and water cannons.
Special measures and force have been employed against protesters, including journalists on the ground. Law enforcement is deploying the entire arsenal to stop the demonstrations. Riot police have beaten protesters with batons. Violence has also been used against an RT correspondent and cameraman; they were beaten with batons, had their press badges ripped off, and gas masks broken before being targeted with tear gas.
Clashes erupted in various locations across Turkey throughout the night. Experts familiar with the country’s internal political situation believe that the tensions will continue in the coming days. Most importantly, the state agency responsible for monitoring the radio and TV sector—which is in fact the main censorship body for Turkish media—has ordered the country’s largest TV networks not to broadcast the protests. Even the economic downturn is not allowed to be covered.
