Egypt presents new proposal for resolution in Gaza Strip

Egypt has put forward a new proposal regarding the resolution of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, which includes the release of all hostages held in the area and their handover to the Israeli side within a maximum period of one and a half months, the Palestinian Maan news agency reports.

As noted, Cairo expects that under its initiative, “all surviving hostages and the bodies of the deceased will be handed over within one to one and a half months.”

In response, as proposed by the Egyptian side, a ceasefire should be restored in Gaza, and humanitarian aid deliveries to the enclave’s population should resume. Maan notes that if the conflicting parties agree to Egypt’s proposal, the first batch of five hostages could be released by the end of this week. At the same time, Hamas insists on providing guarantees for maintaining the ceasefire. On March 14, Hamas informed mediators that it is ready to release American hostage Edan Alexander and hand over the bodies of four deceased dual citizens.

On March 18, the Israeli military resumed operations in Gaza, launching extensive strikes against the enclave, thereby breaking the ceasefire established in January of this year. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained this by stating that the goal of the operation in the Gaza Strip is to free all hostages.
