Zakharova: Russia considers threats to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities unacceptable

Threats to bomb Iran’s nuclear and energy facilities are unacceptable, and Moscow advocates for a diplomatic resolution to misunderstandings between Iran and the West, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

“Threats coming from there, such as those regarding bombings of Iran’s nuclear and energy facilities—which would inevitably lead to widespread and irreversible radiological consequences for the entire Middle Eastern region and the world—are simply unacceptable,” Zakharova said during a press briefing.

As noted, Moscow supports the search for a diplomatic solution to the disagreements between Iran and Western countries, as well as the pursuit of stable negotiation solutions.

“This will eliminate the West’s prejudices and misunderstandings regarding Iran’s nuclear program, while also taking into account Tehran’s legitimate interests in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, which stems from Tehran’s participation in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons,” Zakharova noted.

Earlier, in an interview with NBC News, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Iran with unprecedented bombings if the U.S. and Iran did not reach an agreement on the nuclear program.

To remind, Trump set a two-month deadline in a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei for concluding a new nuclear deal. In response, Tehran rejected direct negotiations with the U.S. on the nuclear program, stating that the window for negotiations is only open through mediation by third countries.
