EU freezes tariffs against US for 90 days
The EU will continue to develop new tariffs against the U.S. but will freeze them for 90 days “to give negotiations a chance,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in an X post.
“We took note of the announcement by President Trump. We want to give negotiations a chance. While finalising the adoption of the EU countermeasures that saw strong support from our Member States, we will put them on hold for 90 days. If negotiations are not satisfactory, our countermeasures will kick in,” von der Leyen writes.
She also confirmed that the EU is developing additional countermeasures against U.S. tariffs. “As I have said before, all options remain on the table,” she noted.
