April 24 recognized Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day in Los Angeles County

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a motion to recognize April 24 as Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day within the county, Pasadena Now reports.

As noted, introduced by Supervisors Kathryn Barger and Hilda Solis, the motion condemned the Turkish government for denying the genocide despite historical evidence.

The motion also made reference to the ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh in recent years, as a result of which the local Armenian population was forced to leave their homeland.

The Board has consistently called on the U.S. government to impose sanctions on Azerbaijan for its continued human rights violations and to demand the immediate release of Armenian hostages held captive by the Azerbaijani government.

On April 24, 2021, former U.S. President Joe Biden officially recognized the Armenian Genocide.
