Conclave fails to elect a pope

Black smoke billowed from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel on St. Peter’s Square in Vatican, indicating that none of the cardinals secured enough votes to be elected Bishop of Rome after the first round of voting. To be elected, a candidate must receive two-thirds of the votes.

The voting process lasted over three hours. The next round of voting will take place tomorrow.
