Brazilian president offers to mediate Russia–Ukraine negotiations

During talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on May 9, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva proposed himself as a mediator in potential negotiations with Ukraine, CNN Brasil reports, referring to Brazilian presidential advisor Celso Amorim.

As noted, during the meeting, Lula da Silva discussed proposals that had been prepared jointly by Beijing and Brasília in advance, and “offered his assistance as a mediator.”

Amorim stated that Brazil’s position is close to that of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, namely, to support the earliest possible launch of a negotiation process.
