Following Trump’s example EU plans to lift sanctions against Syria
EU foreign ministers intend to abolish economic sanctions against Syria, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated as she arrived at the meeting of EU foreign and defense ministers.
“We plan to lift the sanctions against Syria today,” Kallas said.
To remind, U.S. President Donald Trump announced during his trip to the Persian Gulf that the U.S. would remove long-standing sanctions on Syria. Speaking in Riyadh, Trump indicated that the move was made at the request of Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani also posted on X, describing the planned step as a “new beginning” on Syria’s path to reconstruction.
