Abraham Lincoln’s bloodstained gloves sold at auction for $1.5 million
Abraham Lincoln’s bloodstained gloves were sold for $1.5 million at an auction in Chicago, and a handkerchief went for $826,000. The 16th president of the U.S. had these items with him on April 14, 1865, the night he was shot, the New York Post writes.
A “Wanted” poster featuring photos of three suspects in the assassination conspiracy sold for $762,500. Over $500,000 was paid for a famous sample of Lincoln’s handwriting, taken from a notebook dating back to 1824, The Independent reports.
The auction was organized by Freeman’s/Hindman on behalf of the Lincoln Presidential Foundation. The nonprofit organization owns the largest collection of artifacts related to the 16th U.S. president in the world.
