Erdoğan orders drafting new constitution for Turkey
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that he has appointed a team of ten legal experts and authorized them to begin work on a new constitution, Turkish media reports.
“We have repeatedly demonstrated our sincere intentions over the past 23 years to strengthen our democracy through a new civilian liberal constitution. The 1982 Constitution bears the marks of a period of coups. The new constitution will allow us to shed these remnants and leave the past behind,” Erdoğan stated.
