Explanation: How Ucom turned into Turkcell for a little while

There was a network apocalypse in Ucom, which — however
lasted about half an hour — caused quite a stir.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 30, Ucom’s mobile and fixed
services were completely cut.

Afterward, people made posts on their social media accounts
noting that ‘Turkcell’ had appeared on their screens instead of ‘Ucom’.
Turkcell is Turkey’s national mobile phone operator.

Media expert Samvel Martirosyan made a post on this as well.
He told ABC Media that he could not state the real reason for the incident.

“I did not check it myself, as I am not a Ucom
subscriber. However, several scenarios can be considered in such cases. When
the connection is broken, you start roaming and your phone connects to the
strongest network nearby. However, I saw no roaming sign in the screenshots
sent to me. This had nothing to do with roaming. But I have no idea what it
was,” Samvel Martirosyan said.

Head of PR of Ucom Diana Mnatsakanyan told ABC Media that a
small system failure occurred, but the issue has already been settled.

First, the 3G network was restored, then 4G network issues
were settled.

“As for the screenshots, published by Samvel
Martirosyan, we have no idea of that incident. Let him provide us with the
subscribers’ data, so that we can check and find out how they disconnected from
the Ucom network and connected to Turkcell,” Diana Mnatsakanyan said.
