Japan eases sanctions against Syria
Japan has decided to partially lift sanctions against Syria, the country’s government said.
“We have decided to lift sanctions against four banks, in support of the efforts of the international community to promote peace and stability in Syria and improve the living conditions of the Syrian people,” Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi stated at a press conference.
According to Japan’s government notice, the sanctions are being lifted for Syria’s Industrial Bank, Popular Credit Bank, Saving Bank, and Agricultural Cooperative Bank.
Hayashi also noted that Japan will coordinate its actions with other G7 members regarding Syria to determine what will be most effective in achieving peace and stability in the country.
