36 people killed and 10,000 homes damaged in India due to natural disasters

The death toll from floods and landslides caused by monsoon rains in northeastern India has risen to 36, The Hindu reports.

Additionally, more than 550 thousand residents were affected.

The highest death toll since May 29 due to incessant rains and overflowing rivers was recorded in Assam region, where 11 people, including three soldiers, were killed in the natural disaster. Reports of deaths and missing people were also received from Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura.

More than 10,000 homes have been damaged in the regions, schools have been closed, rail and road communications have been disrupted, and the supply of food and essential supplies to the population has become more difficult.

Prisoners of war
