
Germany’s former foreign minister to become UN General Assembly’s new president
Annalena Baerbock, Germany’s former Foreign Minister, has been elected as the new president of the U.N. General Assembly.
“As president of the General Assembly, I will engage in a dialogue based on trust with all member states. My door will always be open to everyone,” Baerbock said after the voting.
Germany’s former foreign minister received 167 votes, which was enough to secure victory. She expressed her gratitude to those who voted for her.
Baerbock’s inauguration is scheduled for Sept. 9.
She served as Germany’s foreign minister from 2021 to 2025.
