
Former Kyrgyz president sentenced in absentia to 11.5 years in prison
Bishkek Pervomaisky District Court has sentenced former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev in absentia to 11.5 years in prison, Interfax reports.
Atambayev was found guilty of illegally acquiring land plots in Koy-Tash village of Chüy Region, as well as being involved in corruption during the modernization of the Bishkek Thermal Power Plant (TPP) and organizing mass disturbances in Koy-Tash on Aug. 7-8.
The court also ordered the seizure of the former president’s property and deprived him of all state awards.
