Former House speaker and her husband shot in Minnesota

In the U.S. state of Minnesota, a former House Speaker and her husband were shot, ABC News reports.

As noted, the lawmaker who was killed was Democratic State Rep. Melissa Hortman. She and her husband, Mark, were shot and killed at their home in what appears to be a “politically-motivated assassination,” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said at a news conference on Saturday.

The same shooter wounded Sen. John Hoffman and his wife; both underwent surgery; their lives are not in danger.

The suspect was seen near Hortman’s house, dressed as a police officer. When the police attempted to arrest him, he opened fire and fled the scene.
