Saakashvili: Pashinyan did what I failed to do in 2011–12 — he took prisoner the Armenian Ivanishvili
What is happening in the South Caucasus is a direct consequence of Russia’s weakening in Ukraine, former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili wrote on Facebook.
“After an unsuccessful war, Pashinyan in Armenia did what I failed to do in 2011-2012 — he took prisoner the Armenian Ivanishvili, billionaire Karapetyan. Pashinyan officially chose the path of EU membership. Baku began cooperating with NATO, and Azerbaijan sees Russia as a direct threat and is actively taking steps to cleanse its political, economic, and cultural space of Russian influence. Moreover, Azerbaijan and Armenia have started to come closer, which is a heavy blow to Russia,” Saakashvili stated.
He pointed out that in this situation, Georgia is a complete anomaly, as society absolutely hated Ivanishvili and “his band of bandits.”
“Even the scoundrels themselves are ashamed to admit their political affiliation because they themselves are experiencing difficulties and humiliations. In this situation, we constantly hear that this cannot continue and that ‘something will happen.’ But we need to understand that this ‘something’ will not happen on its own. The active part of society must take the initiative and stop going along with the same framework. Geopolitical processes are helping us a lot, but we also have no time to waste. In conditions of a leadership shortage, self-organization is the only right way out,” the former president of Georgia wrote.
