European Parliament rejects proposal to vote no confidence in Ursula von der Leyen
The European Parliament has rejected the proposal to express no confidence in European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The motion was approved by 175 MPs, while 360 voted against.
The initiative was brought forward by Romanian right-wing MP Gheorghe Piperea, accusing the Commission of poor governance, corruption, and abuse of authority, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yesterday, during a speech in the parliament, von der Leyen stated that she does not accept the accusations, asserting that her opponents are inciting conspiracies.
This was the first attempt in over 10 years to initiate impeachment proceedings against the European Commission president.
