Giant iceberg approaches Greenland

Residents of the small village of Innaarsuit on Greenland’s west coast woke up to find a massive iceberg looming nearby, BILD writes.

The iceberg has split into two parts and is now just a few meters away from a local grocery store in the village. The iceberg stands over 100 meters tall and, according to experts, weighs up to 11 million tons.

It was first spotted a week ago, after which it drifted away. However, earlier this week, the enormous ice mass returned and is now moving very slowly.

Local authorities have declared a state of emergency, evacuated part of the village, and advised residents to exercise extreme caution. If the iceberg collapses or begins to break apart, powerful waves could flood the village.

This is not the first such incident. In 2018, another massive ice sheet floated toward the village. At that time, residents were also evacuated, but no destruction occurred, as the ice simply drifted past.
