India’s vice president resigns

India’s Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned citing health reasons, Hindustan Times reports.

“Prioritizing my health, I am immediately resigning from the position of Vice President of India,” Dhankhar wrote, expressing his gratitude to the President, Prime Minister, Parliament, and Cabinet for their joint efforts.

Dhankhar assumed the office of Vice President in August 2022.

The Vice President is the second-highest official in India after the President and also holds the position of Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament.
