Mass arrests in Turkey with another mayor detained
Istanbul police have detained 42 people, including Beyoğlu district mayor Inan Günei, on suspicion of corruption, Turkish media reports.
The arrests were carried out under a decision by the local prosecutor’s office.
Among those taken into custody are members of the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), to which the Beyoğlu mayor also belongs. Reports indicate that the arrests are connected to anti-corruption operations being conducted in Istanbul’s municipal administration.
The investigation began following the arrest of Istanbul’s opposition mayor, Ekrem İmamoğlu.
