Iran’s supreme leader agrees to resume nuclear talks with US, says Reuters

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has agreed to resume nuclear talks with the United States. According to Armenpress, Reuters reports that Iran’s political leadership now views talks with the U.S. as the only way to avoid further escalation.

Reuters noted that recent attacks on Iranian nuclear and military targets—including the killings of senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and nuclear scientists—shocked Tehran, occurring just one day before the planned sixth round of talks with Washington.

An anonymous political source told Reuters that the leadership is now inclined toward negotiations, having witnessed the cost of a military confrontation.

“The final word rests with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Internal sources report that he and the spiritual authority have agreed to resume nuclear talks, considering them vital for the survival of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Reuters wrote.

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet responded to the media outlet’s requests for comment on this matter.
