Russia and Ukraine conduct prisoner exchange

Representatives from Russia and Ukraine have carried out the latest phase of a prisoner exchange, Russia’s Ministry of Defense reports.

Russia returned 84 servicemen to Ukraine, while Ukraine handed over 84 prisoners of the Russian Armed Forces. The ministry noted that the exchange was conducted with the mediation of the United Arab Emirates.

Russian and Ukrainian delegations reached an agreement on the exchange during negotiations held in Istanbul in early June. The talks included the exchange of severely wounded soldiers and prisoners aged 18 to 25, as well as the return of the bodies of soldiers killed in the war.
