Iran not considering foreign military presence in South Caucasus helpful

Iran supports the peace agreement signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei, said during a press briefing.

According to Baghaei, Iran supports the ratification of the peace agreement, which he said would pave the way for security and stability in the South Caucasus.

“The signing of the joint statement by Azerbaijan and Armenia was a sovereign decision by both countries. We support the ratification of the peace agreement, which can ensure stable security and stability in the region,” Baghaei stated.

He added that establishing communication channels between regional countries should occur without any geopolitical changes. “While we support the creation of communication channels between the countries in the region, we believe this must be done in accordance with internationally recognized borders and with respect for the territorial integrity of the countries, without any geopolitical changes,” Baghaei said.

He also noted that Iran does not consider the presence of foreign military forces in the region beneficial, expressing concern over it. “We do not consider the presence of foreign forces helpful and have expressed our concerns. We have been assured that no military forces will be deployed in the region. One of the key points of the peace agreement is that no third party should deploy military forces along the common border of the two countries. Therefore, we are closely monitoring developments and maintaining strong contacts with both countries,” Baghaei said.
