Trump orders US-Mexico border wall painted black to deter migrants

U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the border wall with Mexico to be painted black so that it heats up under the sun and makes it harder for illegal migrants to climb, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said during a visit to the border.

“The wall is tall and very difficult to climb, almost impossible. It is also deeply embedded into the ground, making it hard to dig tunnels beneath. And now we will paint it black,” Noem told reporters.

According to her, the order came directly from the president, who reasoned that in high temperatures, black surfaces absorb more heat, creating an additional barrier against climbing attempts.

Noem also recalled that Congress has approved budget allocations for large-scale border construction works, including water barriers.

Meanwhile, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks announced plans to equip the wall with video surveillance systems and seismic sensors to strengthen border security.
