A number of famous people have joined the public demand
regarding the preventive detention of Founding Artistic Director and
Principal Conductor of the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra Sergey Smbatyan.
They wrote an open letter to Nikol Pashinyan and RA
Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan, calling on them to take measures so that
Sergey Smbatyan’s significant role and invaluable contribution to the cultural
life of Armenia be taken into consideration. They also called on relevant
authorities to revisit the measure of restraint imposed on the maestro.
“As we have carried out many projects with Sergey
Smbatyan, we can state that a large part of our society treats him kindly and
considers him the cultural hero of our times who cherishes universal values.
Thus, in view of his outstanding talent, we call on you to take into account
the invaluable contribution that he has made to the development of our culture.
All of us, Sergey Smbatyan’s dedicated fans, are unanimous in our support for
him and strongly stand behind him,” reads the letter.
They intercede for Sergey Smbatyan, asking to revisit the
measure of restraint imposed on him and to allow him to be in the sphere where
he belongs.
