US no longer spending money on war in Ukraine
U.S. President Donald Trump has not ruled out the possibility of U.S. air forces being involved in ensuring Europe’s security, with the aim of ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, Trump said in an interview with Daily Caller.
Speaking at the White House, Trump outlined his approach, stressing that he is ready to provide security guarantees if it helps bring the conflict to an end.
“Every week thousands of young people are dying. If I can stop that — and sometimes our planes may fly over — the main burden will fall on the Europeans. But we will help them if it brings peace,” Trump said.
At the same time, the U.S. president rejected claims that he is ready to send American troops to Ukraine. “This is not our war. We’re no longer spending money on that war. We’re selling arms to NATO, not to Ukraine. NATO is paying for it,” he stated.
Trump also said he does not believe a quick meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy is likely, emphasizing that the sides are not yet ready for dialogue.
The U.S. president again blamed his political opponents for the current situation, stressing that he had “inherited this war” and is now trying to “put out the fire.”
According to him, while Washington will not deploy ground forces, the U.S. is open to discussing air support to assist Europe.
