People die as fire breaks out at Indonesia’s government building
At least three people have died and five were injured in a fire at Indonesia’s parliamentary building, with protesters blamed for the incident, Al Jazeera reports, citing Indonesia’s disaster management agency.
A statement released on Saturday said the fatalities occurred during the fire on Friday evening in the city of Makassar.
Rahmat Mappatoba, Secretary of the Makassar City Council, told AFP that three people died in the incident overnight—two at the scene and one in hospital. All were inside the burning building.
He accused protesters of storming and setting fire to the building.
Authorities confirmed that the fire has now been extinguished.
