Azerbaijani businessman arrested in Russia

Law enforcement authorities in Russia have detained Shakhlar Novruzov, a prominent member of the Azerbaijani community in Kuban, Kommersant writes.

Novruzov is the owner of one of Tuapse’s cargo terminals and the “Old Baku” restaurant in Krasnodar. According to investigators, he and several associates attempted to illegally seize real estate worth 919 million rubles by using falsified documents. To support the transaction, Novruzov allegedly submitted a forged marriage certificate to the court.

The businessman has been placed under arrest for a six-month period.
