Jewish public figures demand that president make efforts toward Artsakh blockade removal
A number of scholars, religious leaders and public figures
living in Israel called on President Isaac Herzog to help resolve the
humanitarian crisis in Artsakh and provide 120,000 people with food supplies.
“The State of Israel has close ties with Azerbaijan,
with the state that has created this crisis and is able to resolve it. These ties
oblige the State of Israel to take a clear position and not to stand idly
by,” reads the letter.
They noted that hereby Azerbaijan breaks the Statement of
November 9, 2020, and creates a serious humanitarian crisis.
“In the light of the historical bonds linking us with
the Armenian nation, we cannot stand silent. Both the history of the Jews and
the history of Armenia attest to the fact that political excuses are made to
justify inaction and apathy,” they wrote.
The authors called on the country’s president to demand that
his Azerbaijani partners lift the blockade of the corridor.
