One may be declared ‘terrorist’ for supporting Palestine in UK
Over 890 people protesting the British government’s decision to ban the activist group Palestine Action were arrested in London, police said Sunday, marking the largest mass arrest in the British capital in decades, CNN writes.
Palestine Action is a UK-based group of hundreds of individuals. They accuse the UK arms industry of complicity and supporting Israel’s government. They targeted an Israeli weapons factory, destroyed British military equipment and even vandalised parts of Donald Trump’s golf course in Scotland. This June action on a British airbase was seen as a step too far by the UK government, who designated them as a terrorist organization, meaning anyone taking part in these actions could face terrorism charges.
When asked if the actions the group has done has made any difference, one of the members of the action said that one of their actions have resulted in the shutting down of two subsidiaries of an Israeli arms factory.
Now as the UK government has designated the Palestine Action a terrorist organization, even holding a sign of the action is illegal, sparking fears that free speech is being stifled.
